As an IT professional, I spend most of the year working within my comfort zone. Mitigating realized threats and potential threats; training and coaching my staff; developing relationships; doing project work; working with vendors and partners.
I really enjoy what I do. The life of an IT Pro never gets dull. On the flip-side, it is easy to get complacent, stuck in the comfort zone, and eventually get left in the dust. This is where I insist that all my employees take the time to study and grow. Growth comes in many forms:
I am constantly pushing my employees to get out of their comfort zone. As the President and founder, I can’t afford to be a slouch either. I have to steer the ship; and that means leading by example. Every year, I hold myself to the same high standards as all of my employees.
Why? Certifying, training, networking, giving back…all these activities take time and cost money. The reason we do it at TRA Consulting, Inc., is because the payoff is tremendous. On the company side, I have happier, more fulfilled, more motivated, and more engaged employees. On the client-side, I can better market TRA Consulting, Inc. to our existing and potential clients.
By staying on the “cutting edge” of IT, we are better able to anticipate threats in the IT landscape and help our clients better prepare for the future. Just as importantly, we are able to better align our goals to the goals of all of our customers; implementing methodologies and technologies that fit the bottom line and make them more effective and profitable.
